The Reel Deal Film Festival 2023 will be held March 2nd-March 5th, 2023 in New Smyrna Beach. The festival brings world wide films to Volusia County. New Smyrna Beach filmmaker Alexa Sheehan's film SURVIVING PULSE will be the festival's opening film. Filmmaker Sheehan delicately tells this story of the triumph of the heart. This is not a story of guns, politics, labels or groups. The film includes never-heard-before audio of inside the nightclub and takes you through the 5 years of healing. You can join the festival for this opening night red carpet premiere at the Brannon. Dress is your call (dinner night out to black tie), with food, bar and after party.
Films about the Florida Manatee, Florida's Natural Springs and the Florida East Coast Railway are programmed screenings. Also look for a director's showcase on March 3rd at The Hub on Canal. The evening begins at 5:30 for a wine and mingle where you can check out the latest Hub Art. At 6:30, the first block of Short Films will take a look back, now with distance and perspective, at the pandemic lockdown and how filmmakers across the globe expressed themselves in films created in isolation. More often than not, they found exceptional humor and depth. Intermission offers time for a wine refill and light fare created by To Better Days Wine Bar & Bistro. Following that, view a juried list of mixed genre films that represent the 2023 'Best of the Fest,' curated specifically for the Hub audience for their sincere appreciation of art film. One film is written by a Deltona High Freshman.
