(released
2/14/2013
)
By
Douglas Lorah
The Starlite Film Festival ran January 31-February 2 in the historic downtown of Winter Garden inside the Garden Theatre. They set themselves apart from the rest of the circuit by highlighting microbudget films. Their definition is feature length narrative films made with $200,000 or less.
This was their second year and they opened the festival on Thursday evening with Robin Cowie telling a little about his experiences. Cowie is most known for working with Haxan Films on the
Blair Witch Project
. He introduced the opening night film
Midnight Son
, which is a horror feature put together by some of his Haxan alums Matt Compton and Eduardo Sanchez.
A few awards were given out at the ceremony held Saturday. Bernardo De Urquidi's
2xUno
won the Best International Film and also took home the Audience Choice award. Brett Ryan Bonowicz's feature
Waterhole Cove
won the Best Domestic Film award.
