American Black Film Festival is May 27-31 in Miami

AMERICAN BLACK FILM FESTIVAL is taking place May 27-31, 2026 in Miami Beach for THE HOMECOMING 30th ANNIVERSARY. The American Black Film Festival has been celebrating stories by and about people of African descent since 1997. Starting as an independent film festival, ABFF has grown to a global platform spanning film, television, music, technology, art, business, sports, wellness, comedy and more. In 2026, ABFF marks its 30th anniversary under the powerful theme HOMECOMING - a tribute to the festival's three-decade legacy of cultivating and expanding the community and will be its rich legacy.

For five days you can experience the screenings, star-studded events, exclusive parties and networking. The Opening Night Film on May 27 will be feature film STRUNG. The HBO SHORT FILM AWARD will be presented Thursday, May 28th, and on Friday, May 29, a special screening of THE BRITTNEY GRINER STORY will take place.

Panels and Conversations planned include Regina King in Conversation May 28, and an immersive panel with CBS original BEYOND THE GATES will be Thursday as well. On Friday, Taye Diggs will speak on longevity, resilience, and purpose as he speaks on living fully and leading forward.  Look also for Netflix to have a CELEBRATION of BLACK TV discussing and celebrating Black Television on Friday, May 29th.

Free things to do during the festival also exist as ABFF Community Day will be Sunday, May 31. Screening Under the Stars, BROWN SUGAR will screen for free Friday, May 29 at 8pm. Miami Beach Black History Tour will be on Saturday, May 30 at 10am.

Opening Night Party for the festival is Wednesday at 10pm, a Comedy Experience "HEY LADIES" will be Friday night at 9:30pm and Saturday night May 30, at 8:30pm the Best of ABFF Awards will be taking place.
