Gasparilla Celebrates 10th Year with Rita Moreno
(released
3/30/2016)
By Douglas Lorah
What a difference a year can make. Last year, the Gasparilla International Film Festival was going into its 9th year and it didn’t have a home. They had to run an IndieGoGo campaign to resurrect Channelside Cinemas.
This year, their 10th anniversary, is a 180 in comparison. They have big sponsors with Suncoast Credit Union, Merrill Lynch sponsoring the ticketing system, and even the opening night party is sponsored by Audi. Speaking of opening night, the festival has Director Gavin Hood attending the screening of Eye In The Sky at the Tampa Theatre.
Some other highlights at this year’s festival include an industry panel with Animator Bill Plympton, another panel on pitching with Producer Randall Emmett, and a screening of Remember Me starring Rita Moreno and directed by Steve Goldblum. Both will be in attendance and Rita Moreno will also receive a Lifetime Achievement Award during the fest.
The festival started tonight and runs through Sunday, April 3rd. Catch it while you can. Check out their schedule at gasparillafilmfestival.com.
