Documentarian Rory Kennedy will open the Sarasota Film Festival on March 31, 2017. The festival will be holding an intimate tribute luncheon for the filmmaker at the Sarasota Yacht Club (1100 John Ringling Blvd.) at 11:30p.m.-1:30p.m. Email Maggie Wood (mwood@sarasotafilmfestival.com) for ticket information.
Kennedy will be walking the red carpet at 5:30p.m. the same evening as her film Take Every Wave: The Life of Laird Hamilton will be the opening night film of the festival. Footage captures Hamilton the surfer, where he grew up, his technical innovations, his ability to challenge himself in the sport, and nature he comes up against on his surf journey.
The opening night party follows the screening of the surf legend's 30 year career, a block party gala at the historic Sarasota Opera House. The takeover of North Pineapple Avenue is a planned cocktail attired affair.
