Coming off the heels of their eight year-old statewide short film competition, Collaboration...A Short Film Contest, this year's Music Video Challenge (MVC '06) will be the third to marry the talents of both music and film.
Music and film makers from around the state will assemble in teams of eight to write, record, shoot and edit a five minute (or less) video based on an assigned theme. Each team will consist of a music producer, composer, artist(s), sound engineer/playback, video producer, director/writer, editor, and a cameraperson and will be categorized by genre. The seven genres are Pop, Rock, Urban, Country, Jazz/Blues, Tropical/Caribbean and Alternative.
The orientation should be attended by all team members and will take place Wednesday March 1, 2006 at the Press Room Restaurant Bar & Lounge located at 1233 Lincoln Road in Miami Beach. Their number is 305.672.5850. People may sign up individually (and be matched with other music and video makers), as a partial team or have all team members together at the orientation. All registration forms are due on Monday, March 6, 2006.
This year's theme will be announced on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 and all groups will have a total of three weeks to complete the five minutes (or less) project and turn it into the competition's headquarters in Miami. Participants must be Florida residents and come together as a team of eight.
The winners of the challenge will receive the following prizes. The producer / director will be granted an opportunity to submit a treatment for an upcoming video to a major label. The artist / composer will be granted 15 hours of free studio time, a face-to-face meeting with an A&R executive from both a major label and publisher, as well as an Epiphone acoustic guitar.
There will be a final event on May 10, 2006 where there will be a music seminar with music industry professionals. In addition, the finalists's videos will be screened followed by an awards presentation and a live performance by a special guest.
The entry fee package price is $65 per person, which includes fees and participation in all of the aforementioned activities.
Participating sponsors include Universal Music Publishing Group, William Morris and EMI Televisa.
