Melbourne Film Festival runs October 15-17, 2020
(released 10/15/2020)

The Melbourne Independent Filmmakers Festival (MIFF) is scheduled for October 15-17, 2020 at the Premiere Theaters Oaks Stadium 10 and they have some unique programs planned that comply with current health recommendations including an outdoor comedy drive-in program. They also plan to livestream the red carpet and VIP program over the internet so viewers can enjoy the show from home as well.  And October 15 is today, so dig in.

The MIFF's theme for the year is "The Film-Demic". While they receive many submissions from around the world, the promotion of Florida filmmakers is part of their mission.

This year, the MIFF will be opening with the documentary "Surviving Supercon" directed by, the formerly from Orlando and now Southern Cal, Steven Shea showcasing a zany four day Behind the Scenes look at how a ragtag Mom & Pop operation pulls off one of the biggest pop culture conventions in the country. This film also kicked off the prestigious Florida Film Festival and will give our community a chance to see it on the big screen.

They are also premiering Intelligent Thinking (patent pending) - a dark comedy by local filmmaker and musician Lear Bunda that explores his experience as a victim of the infamous sex cult NXIVM through an absurdist filter.

Through the help of Florida Tech, the MIFF has invited the documentary The Porter which features former Florida Tech student Nate Menninger as he becomes one of the first ever foreign-born Porters to aid a Mt. Everest Expedition. The young American fully immersed himself in the role: eating, sleeping, dressing, speaking and working as similarly as he could to other Sherpas. In his effort to equal their strengths, he stumbles into a reality far more harrowing than he expected and ends up documenting a serious injustice.

They will also be premiering the short comedy "Last Impressions" directed by actor and Melbourne resident Annie Travolta (John's sister) which was shot locally with Florida talent!
