Malcolm (male, 35)
A husband and soon-to-be father who has been searching for the meaning behind his father's, grandfather's, and great-grandfather's identical deaths.
MALCOLM
What, you - you're saying this is a dream? You're saying I'm dreaming right now? Is that why you're here? Is that why my wife had a perfect pregnancy? Is that why my baby boy was born healthy?
(A beat.)
This guy with the jokes, man. Look, I know when I'm dreaming. And things do feel off right now but this can't be a dream. I mean, I never even fell asleep.
Jazmine (female, 30-35)
Malcolm's wife, who is pregnant with their first child in the real world, but is experiencing complications.
JAZMINE
Look, I don't know what you've gotten into, but I was pregnant three months ago...and as far as complications, there were none. Doctors said my whole pregnancy went perfect.
(A knock at the door, the baby starts to cry.)
Can you get that? I'm gonna go put the baby to sleep.
Douglas (male, 35)
Malcolm's father, who died on his 35th birthday and appears to Malcolm in the dream world.
DOUGLAS
The night I turned 35, I fell asleep, and I woke up in this perfect world. The difference is that I was in your shoes, having the same exact conversation with my dad. And my dad had the same conversation with his dad. Your great-grandfather.
