Airworthy Doc Screens at Aviation Institute
(released Monday, June 1, 2026)
By Kimberly Burke

AIRWORTHY is a Documentary premiering on June 4, 2026 in Orlando. The film is a spotlight on the next generation of aircraft mechanics. A strong audience response came after the Chicago debut of the film. Airworthy follows aspiring aircraft mechanics from Chicago's South Side as they pursue careers in a one of the most male-dominated industries in America. Women currently make up less than 3% of certified aviation maintenance technicians.

The center of the story is United Airlines groundbreaking all-female maintenance team, "The Chix Fix". These women help to guide the next generation entering the field. Following the June 4th screening, a live panel discussion moderated by Airworthy producer Stephen Peek will feature AIM student Maddison Williams, Airworthy director Maria Peek, and Laura Spolar, captain of United Airlines' Chix Fix team, alongside additional guests and aviation industry representatives to be announced.

"Airworthy is about more than aviation," said Airworthy director Maria Peek. "It's about representation, opportunity, and moving the needle on this very important issue. We wanted to tell a story that gives audiences an authentic look at the dedication and determination these students bring to the industry — while shining a light on the urgent need for the next generation of aviation maintenance professionals."

The premiere screening will take place at the Aviation Institute of Maintenance Metro Orlando location at 2725 US Hwy 17 92, Casselberry, FL 32708. Learn more about the school here: https://aviationmaintenance.edu/campuses/orlando-fl/
