Strong Florida Ties at Orlando Film Festival

The Orlando Film Festival started Wednesday evening with the film Te Ata, which had Orlando ties, even though it filmed out west. Paul Sirmons was a producer, Tom Nowicki played a part, Beverly Safier was the costume designer, and Carl Carden mixed the sound.
The festival continues through Sunday, October 23 with numerous other films with Central Florida ties.
The feature narrative Read Me, which was written and directed by Fred Zara, screens Thursday, October 20 and Saturday, October 22. This is the story of an adult man who has dyslexia, but has an uncanny ability to read people.
The feature Heels was produced by and stars Britt George who grew up in Orlando. Heels is the story of adopted brothers who go to extreme measures to raise money to save the family restaurant. It screens October 21.
Other Madnesses was produced by Dawn Fidrick who attended Dr. Phillips High School. This is a psychological thriller about a NYC tour guide who descends into madness revealed through his dreams. Screens October 20 & 23.
Shooting Clerks is having its world premiere on October 22. One of the producers is UCF grad and "Orlandoan" Ryan James. This is a biopic about filmmaker Kevin Smith.
Love and Hostages directed by David Vargas (Full Sail grad) and written by Javier Mayol (UCF grad) is the story of a one night stand gone wrong. If you are just hearing about this film, you missed the first screening at 1:15pm on Thursday, but you can still catch it on Sunday, October 23 at 1:00pm.
Barry Baker: Aspiring Serial Killer is a web series, of which the pilot episode is screening at the festival prior to an Amazon Prime release on Halloween. The writer and director Tony Ahedo is a St. Petersburg native and a Ringling College of Art and Design grad. Barry Baker is a horror comedy about an office worker who learns his destiny from a fortune cookie... that he is to be a serial killer. It screens as part of the Overcoming Afflictions shorts program tonight October 20 at 7:15pm.
Loving Henri is the story of Henri Landwirth, the founder of Give Kids the World in Orlando. Due to the nature of the story, which delves into Henri's traumatic past, portions of the film were shot in Orlando. The world premiere is October 23.
Reset is a short film produced by Lance Dickinson who grew up in Hollywood, FL and learned about filmmaking at Valencia College in Orlando. Reset screens on October 20 & 23 as part of Drama Shorts #1.
