American Black Film Fest is June 12-16 in Miami

The American Black Film Festival will be in Miami Beach June 12-16, 2019. This annual event is the largest gathering of black film and TV enthusiasts. Founded in 1997 by Jeff Friday as a vehicle to strengthen the black filmmaking community encouraging the sharing of resources, education and artistic collaboration. This 2019 event will be the 23rd year of the festival.
In 2017, ABFF launched Greenlighters Academy, a pipeline program for students attending historically black colleges and universities with an interest in corporate careers in film, television and entertainment media. In 2019, the festival will bring About Women alive. A global initiative focused on empowering and inspiring women of color in the film and television industry. A new showcase of films based on caste related topics impacting communities of color will also be revealed at this year's gathering.
Shaft will be the opening night feature followed the next day by independent film screenings. The 22nd annual HBO short film competition will take place at New World Center Performance Hall on Thursday evening. The Legendary White Party will take place at Nikki Beach later that night as well. Omar Epps will open up the social showcase and masterclasses to up your production game will be included in the days of festivaling.
