By Douglas Lorah
The 4th Film Slam of this year was Sunday, April 13th at the Enzian Theater. A new attendance record of 166 ticketed movie goers was reached. The previous attendance record for the Film Slam was 155 in October 2007. This new record is over double the capacity of the old downtown DMAC venue.
The winning film was The Mess which was produced by Dan Springen and written and directed by Art D'Alessandro. The 24 plus minute film was made with the help of Ralph Clemente and his student crew from Valencia Community College.
The Mess will automatically be entered into the Brouhaha Film & Video Showcase in December and have a chance to be screened at next year's Florida Film Festival.
The second place film was Final Toll, written by Bill Clar and directed/produced by Clar and Donald Lee.
The third place film was a documentary by Jen Vargas entitled Relay for Life: St. Cloud. She explained during the Q&A how she originally was asked to record the opening ceremony. Jen decided on the spot to make a doc about the American Cancer Society event by asking why participants got involved. For more info, go to www.relayforlife.org.
